The AIA 2030 Commitment
What is The AIA 2030 Commitment?
In 2006, Architecture 2030 created the 2030 Challenge, which lays out a set of targets for improving energy efficiency and reducing the carbon emissions of buildings. The goal? Reaching carbon neutrality by 2030 through incremental improvements in project performance.
Prospect Studio has become a signatory in the challenge to address one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century, climate change. We value energy efficiency and find it important to address energy targets as early as possible in the design process.
While the end goal of the 2030 Commitment is to achieve carbon-neutral buildings by the year 2030, the program focuses on energy efficiency and reduction of fossil fuel energy use as a proxy for carbon emissions.
The 2030 Commitment prioritizes predicted energy use intensity1 (pEUI) instead of carbon emissions because passive design and energy use reduction is the most fundamental approach that architects can take to reach carbon neutrality.
The places where we work and live matter. Members of the architecture and design profession are pivotal in shaping that environment.
