North of Wilson, Wyoming, this five-acre property is a stunning canvas for the family home of Prospect partner John and his wife Elaine. In a luxury not usually afforded architects, they were able to study the property during the course of a two-year delay while recovering from the economic recession of 2008. They first built a 1,000 square-foot guest house, which they lived in for three years prior to building the main house. During this long gestation period, the couple observed their surroundings until they felt they could complete the master plan with a main house that would take full advantage of the site’s seasonal stream, mixed pine and aspen forest, and dramatic views. The resulting design for the main house reconciles the property’s natural slope with its view to the Sleeping Indian and provides a livable, right-sized residence where the couple can comfortably host family and friends.
"We wanted to strike a balance between shelter⏤feeling protected⏤and having views and a connection to nature. Ultimately, that’s what people love about the house. We are happy to open up Fish Creek for tours and prospective client visits."
—John Carney, FAIA, Fish Creek Owner and Prospect Studio Principal
