The request to design Jackson’s welcome center was bigger than the building’s small footprint suggests. Situated at the north end of the historic downtown, the space had to appeal to tourists, accommodate public restrooms, and serve as the city’s transportation hub. Located in the town’s Home Ranch Parking Lot, the space includes a unique public porch that invites visitors to stay awhile and serves as a launch point for tourist adventures.
The Welcome Center was also the first structure to incorporate the Town of Jackson’s 1% for Art initiative. An art installation was included on the building’s solar screens, with the glass blocks representing the DNA of local grizzly bears and wolves. Upon completion, the building was also awarded LEED Gold certification.
"A beautiful wooden, urban, public porch."
