This residence was originally built by its owner in 1988, meaning it had lots of individual character—including a front door located in the backyard. When asked to update it for new owners thirty years later, the team re-envisioned the entire property, flipping the access and driveway to the south side of the house to improve the space’s overall layout. Now, the residents arrive at an impressive north view of the Tetons through a sequence of vistas and intimate moments.
Once inside, an expanded, open kitchen serves as the heart of the home, and nearly every other room flows to and through it. A subdued, calming color palette still provides rich opportunities for visual discovery thanks to the use of white oak, white cedar, and tinted plaster plus hints of steel, walnut, concrete, and stone. While it has doubled in size, the cabin still celebrates its low-key vibe with its deference to the original low-slung roof lines and natural landscaping. The addition of numerous energy-efficient details also help breathe new life into the repurposed home.
"Matt incorporated an addition to the existing structure that is seamless, functional and beautiful. He elevated the project in every way. I am extremely proud of what he achieved in both form and function."
