Surprise and delight serve as the guiding principles for this guest house. The clients, for whom John had designed the main house 20 years earlier, had a clear idea for this addition: a traditional gambrel-roof barn that would house their classic car, bicycle, and motorcycle collection with a fitness studio and guest suite on the floor above. As approached from the driveway, the structure seems completely traditional with vertical barn-wood siding; tall, narrow dormers; and a shingled roof topped by a classic cupola. Once inside, guests ascend the stairway to the upper floor and discover a wall of glass with an expansive view of the Tetons for an unexpected juxtaposition of old and new.
"We’ve worked with John twice now, and both experiences were sublime. It’s great to partner with someone who loves their work. You can see John’s eyes twinkle with enthusiasm as he approaches each project. We couldn’t be happier with our home."
